The huge ISPO gear exhibition kicks off in Munich next week (I'll be there to report on all the exciting new gear on show) and in the lead up to the event all of the winners from its prestigious awards are being revealed – one of which is Berghaus, which has picked up a Gold Award for its Extrem 8000 Pro jacket – on sale from autumn 2016.

I was at Berghaus's revamped HQ a few weeks ago for its first showing to the press. It's an impressive looking jacket; a top-level hardshell, designed for tough conditions with a three-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell and thick fabric (70 Denier) added at common points of wear and tear.

It’s got some clever design features to aid comfort and manoeuvrability as well. For instance, it sees the debut of Berghaus’s Xpanse technology. This comprises a number of unique little systems: the hood uses a set of magnetic clips to reduce volume when a helmet isn't needed and the hand pockets act as ‘V-Line' body vents. On the back there's a completely unique box pleat to allow more freedom of movement across the back and shoulders – 20% more than a jacket with standard construction according to Berghaus. The brand are calling it “the most advanced mountaineering jacket now available."

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels where we'll be highlighting some of the eye-catching gear from the exhibition halls in Munich.
